CAIRO – 10 October 2017: Mohammad Ali Jafari, head of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corp (IRGC) warned the U.S. of a possible missile attack if it imposes more sanctions on Iran, BBC reported.
“If the U.S. imposes more sanctions on Iran, chances for a future mutual discussion would end, and America then will have to move their regional bases outside the 1,250 km range of the IRGC’s missiles,” said Jafari, according to BBC.
Defending probable designation of the IRGC as a terrorist organization, Jafari said that if the news about the U.S. committing such “stupidity”aretrue, then the Revolutionary Guards would consider theAmerican army to be the same asthe Islamic State (IS).
Iran promised on Monday to give a "crushing" response if the United States designated its elite Revolutionary Guards as a terrorist group.
The pledge came a week before President Donald Trump is to announce the final decision on how he wants to contain Tehran. He is expected on October 15 to "decertify" a landmark 2015 international deal to curb Iran’s nuclear program; a step that by itself stops short of pulling out of the agreement but gives Congress 60 days to decide whether to re-impose sanctions or not.
