CAIRO – 7 October 2017: Preparations for an upcoming Egyptian-French presidential summit are confirmed to be currently underway, according to diplomatic sources.
Earlier in May, President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi called his French counterpart, President Emmanuel Macron, congratulating him on assuming the presidency and inviting him to visit Egypt soon, according to an official statement.
The Sisi-Macron summit is scheduled to take place in late October. This would be the first one-on-one meeting between the two presidents since both assumed office in their respective countries. The summit aims at boosting bilateral relations between the two countries across various fields and promoting joint trade and economic cooperation, as well as ways to share their views towards a number of regional and international issues of common concern.
Under the framework of the growing Egyptian-French relations, both presidents will expectedly be tackling terrorism that has plagued that region over the past few years and how to combat the extremist ideology that is lying in odds with the essence of Islam.
