CAIRO – 6 October 2017: “Support provided to terrorist groups in the Middle East from the Qatari side threatens international and regional security,” Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry told his French counterpart.
Minister of Europe and French Foreign Affairs minister Jean Yves Le Derian expressed France’s interest to be involved in the Arab-Qatari row, Egypt’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ahmed Abou Zeid said in a statement Friday.
Arab quartet insists that Doha has to abandon its current support to terrorist groups for security and stability to be prevailed in the Arab world, Shoukry stressed to Le Drian.
Shoukry discussed with Le Drian on Friday the developments of Palestinian cause and future of the peace process.
Le Derian delivered his country’s greetingson accomplishing the Palestinian internal reconciliation to Shoukry.
Shoukry, who is currently visiting Paris, tackled with his French counterpart Egypt’s endeavors to reach the reconciliation between Fatah and Hamas, deemed it ‘significant achievement.’
“Egypt has sought to encourage Palestinian and Israeli parties to return back to the negotiations’ table,” AbouZeid added.
President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi’s meetings with Palestinian and Israeli presidents at the sidelines of the UNGA session in New York in September reflected the Egyptian administration’s sincere efforts to fulfill progress in the peace process, Abou Zeid added.
The two sides discussed bilateral relations along with the recent developments in the Middle East, especially the situation in Libya, Syria and Iraq.
