CAIRO – 3 October 2017: Egyptian Intelligence Chief Major General Khaled Fawzy held a meeting Tuesday with Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah.
The meeting came shortly after conducting the first meeting of the national reconciliation government with the presence of Fawzy, who gave a short speech affirming that Egypt will always back the Palestinian cause and all unifying efforts.
Egyptian President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi also sent a supportive message to Palestinians and their newly formed consensus government during its meeting in Gaza.
"Egypt is the main supporter to the Palestinians’ demands," Sisi said in a taped video message.
The Hamas movement had announced on September 17 the dissolution of the administrative committee in the Gaza Strip, inviting the government of national reconciliation to assume its duties and hold general elections. The movement affirmed it would comply with the Social Reconciliation Accord signed in 2011.
Earlier, Palestinian President Abbas said that there is no other country as vital to the Palestinian cause as Egypt, due to its historical and political position in the region. “Egypt has an opinion, a position and an interest in the Palestinian cause,” said Abbas.
