ASWAN - Egypt - 1 October 2017: Aswan Fever Hospital has received three people from the Red Sea governorate suspected to have been infected with dengue fever, a senior health official said on Saturday.

Preventive measures have been taken, and hospitals have been put on high alert, Undersecretary of the Health Ministry in Aswan Ehab Hanafy said in a statement.

Dengue is transmitted by the bite of a mosquito infected with one of the four dengue virus stereotypes. It affects infants, young children and adults, according to WHO. Symptoms can appear in 3 to 14 days after the infectious bite, causing mild-to-incapacitating high fever, severe headache, pain behind the eyes, muscle and joint pain and rash.
