KHARTOUM - 30 September 2017: The UN Human Rights Council on Friday extended the mandate of the Independent Expert on the situation of human rights in the Sudan, Sudan Tribune reported.
The decision was taken following an interactive dialogue with Aristide Nononsi, an Independent Expert on the situation of human rights in the Sudan.
In a resolution (A/HRC/36/L.19) on the technical assistance and capacity-building to improve human rights in the Sudan, adopted without a vote, the Council decided to renew the mandate of the Independent Expert for a period of one year, and requested him to present a report to the Human Rights Council on the implementation of his mandate at its thirty-ninth session.
The Council also called upon the Government of Sudan to continue its full cooperation with the Independent Expert and to continue to permit effective access to all areas of the country.
