DAMASCUS - 28 September 2017: The People’s Assembly on Thursday elected Hammoudeh Sabbagh as a new speaker for the Assembly, SANA news agency reported.
Earlier in the day, the assembly of the second legislative term held its fifth session of the fifth ordinary round chaired by its deputy speaker Najdat Anzour for electing its new speaker.
Nominees for chairing the Assembly were: Nidal Hmaidi, Ahmad Mar’i, Hammoudeh Sabbagh and Waddah Murad.
On July 20, the Assembly issued a resolution discharging Dr. Hadyiah Abbas from her post as speaker with a majority of member votes.
