Court jails 10 police for 1 year for attacking security officials

MINYA – 26 September 2017: The Minya Criminal Court on Tuesday sentenced 10 non-commissioned police officers to one year in prison for assaulting the former Minya security director and his deputy.

The court acquitted 13 others in the same case.

The defendants stormed the offices of the security chief and his deputy on August 22, 2013 and forced them out on claims that the two officials discriminate against them and refuse to increase their salaries.

The Public Prosecution sent the 23 policemen to trial in May 2016 on charges of protesting against Interior Ministry officials, inciting violence and rioting.
