Tayyeb supports Egypt's nominee for UNESCO top post

CAIRO - 26 September 2017: Al Azhar Grand Imam Ahmed El Tayyeb met on Tuesday with Egypt's candidate for the UNESCO director-general post Moshira Khattab.

The meeting was attended by Mohamed el Oraby, the head of Khattab's candidacy campaign.

Khattab is worthy of assuming this top post thanks to her considerable expertise, Tayyeb said.

If Khattab wins the election, it will be a good opportunity to reflect the Arab culture, which respects women and their rights, Tayyeb pointed out.

Khattab, meanwhile, thanked Tayyeb for his efforts to spread the moderate teachings of Islam in the whole world.

Education is the only means, through which we can defeat the dark forces of terrorism that threaten the region and the world, she said.
