CAIRO – 26 September 2017: The Local Management Committee has proposed in the House of Representatives to establish a new local police sector in the Ministry of Interior specialized in demolishing illegally built constructions, as an attempt to solve the problem of illegal buildings.

Many members in the House of Representatives have welcomed this new sector, as demolition of illegal construction takes a long time to be applied in Egypt due to the other challenges faced by the Ministry of Interior such as terrorism and other crimes.

“Forming this new sector in the ministry is a great idea, but the only problem hindering its implementation is that it needs huge financial resources to be founded in every security directorate across Egypt,” said the Deputy of the Local Administration Committee in the House of Representatives Mamdouh al-Husseini.

“If it is established, new articles related to it should be set in the new law of local administration,” stated a member in the Local Administration Committee Mohamed Attia al-Fayoumi.

If the problem of illegal buildings is not to be tackled quickly, many buildings will be constructed without licenses and will render their demolishing difficult after being occupied by families, according to a member in the Local Administration Committee Badawy Al Nawishy.

Many Egyptians lose their lives due to illegal collapsed buildings, as people choose to build illegally, sometimes with no help at all from engineers, and offer small bribes to be able to construct.
