Police sentry shot dead in brawl with criminal's brother in Assiut

CAIRO - 26 September 2017: A sentry was shot dead on Monday by a brother of a criminal who was wounded in a gunfight with police in Assiut earlier in the day, the Interior Ministry said.

A police force was patrolling a town in Assiut when it suspected three people on a tuk-tuk vehicle, the ministry said in a statement.

The three men opened fire at the force when it stopped them, the ministry said, adding the force returned fire, killing one and wounding another. The third fled.

The wounded man was admitted to hospital, and when his relatives tried to enter, a police sentry prevented them, it said.

A brawl erupted and the brother of the wounded man shot dead the sentry and fled, it added.

A manhunt was launched to arrest the two men.
