Mashrou' Leila’s concert sparks great controversy in Egypt
CAIRO – 25 September 2017: Great controversy has been aroused in Egypt these days after a group of homosexuals raised their flags openly and provocatively at a “Mashrou' Leila” concert held in Cairo recently.
Social media websites are wondering how this band received permission to hold this concert. People were demanding to know how official permission was given to hold a concert in which young people participated in a manner that contradicts Egyptian values. However, the Lebanese band is famous for acting contrary to values and ethics.
A senior security source said on Monday that the organizers of New Cairo’s concert, in which a number of youths promoted their homosexual orientation, had not obtained security permits.
Security forces arrested a person responsible for filming and promoting the concert on his Facebook page, the source said, adding that a number of people who raised the LGBT flags at the concert were identified, and measures are underway to arrest them.
In the same context, security services arrested seven homosexuals for inciting immorality and the promotion of homosexuality by raising gay and lesbian flags during the concert.
The source said the musicians’ syndicate will ban the band from performing any shows in Egypt in the future.
