CAIRO – 22 September 2017: Following the success in subway stations, Fatwa kiosks are to find their next location at universities and schools with the beginning of the new 2017/2018 school year, member of the Islamic Research Academy Muhammed al-Gendi announced on Friday.

The Islamic Research Academy previously launched fatwa kiosks at metro stations to listen to people’s different inquires and give them on-the-spot answers.

This came within the framework of a cooperation protocol signed between the Metro National Company and the Islamic Research Academy to establish religious portals in metro stations in order to spread religious awareness among metro commuters and to head off extremist and untrustworthy fatwas (religious edicts).

During the holy month of Ramadan, the Islamic Research Academy had broadcasted religious messages for the subway’s passengers via the subway’s internal radio.

Gendi added that the aim of this move comes under the pretext of al-Azhar’s keenness to spread awareness among university and schools students, who are usually the most vulnerable to fall victim to the extremist ideologies.
