President Abdel Fatah el-Sisi (L), Italian Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni (R) meeting in New York on the sidelines of the 72nd UNGA
CAIRO – 20 September 2017: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi stated in his meeting with Italian Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni on Wednesday that his country is keen to bring the killers of Italian researcher Giulio Regeni to justice, according to presidential spokesman Alaa Youssef .
Sisi met with Gentiloni in New York on the sidelines of the 72nd session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), with the attendance of Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and head of the Egyptian General Intelligence Directorate Khaled Fawzy.
During the meeting, Sisi hailed the strong historical relations between Egypt and Italy, welcoming the return of momentum to these relations, Youssef added.
Sisi stated that Egypt will not forget the supportive stance of Italy in support of the Egyptians’ will, stressing Egypt's keenness to develop bilateral relations in various political and economic fields, as well as enhancing cooperation in economic fields.
On his part, Gentiloni stressed Italy's keenness to develop cooperation with Egypt at all levels, pointing out that the return of ambassadors between the two countries comes within this framework.
He stated that Italy is keen to intensify mutual coordination in combating terrorism in order to restore stability in the Middle East and Mediterranean regions, Youssef added.
