KUWAIT CITY – 20 September 2017: US Ambassador to Kuwait Lawrence R. Silverman expressed on Wednesday his country's appreciation to Kuwait's mediation efforts led by Kuwait Emir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah in a bid to resolve the Gulf crisis.

Silverman told Kuwait News Agency that it is imperative to reach a settlement to the Gulf dispute as quickly as possible in order to maintain security and stability of the Middle East.

Silverman noted that the US will continue to support Kuwaiti mediating efforts as the Gulf security is essential for the regional stability.

Silverman lauded ties binding his country with Kuwait and affirmed that both countries have a strategic partnership and strong cooperation especially in the fields of security, defense and fighting terrorism on all levels.

Silverman described the Emir's recent meeting with President Trump as very successful and fruitful, adding that it was important for the Emir to meet with the new administration to discuss several regional and bilateral issues in addition to other issues related to the OIC.

Commenting on the second dialogue and Customs Mutual Assistance Agreements (CMAAs), he noted that both countries were working hard to come to bilateral agreements and during the Emir's visit we were able to accomplish all these arrangements.

Such agreements will represent a new phase to develop relations between the two countries, he affirmed.

"We will help each other secure our borders, share information about customs and help exporters in both ways," he said

He expounded that the first strategic dialogue past year laid the foundation to sign agreements that helped in enhancing security and stability of the people of Kuwait and paved the way for more future investment opportunities.

The ambassador congratulated Kuwait for winning a non-permanent seat at the United Nations Security Council starting as of January 1, 2018, adding that Kuwait will represent the Arab world, adding that this has resulted from the wise foreign policy adopted by Kuwait.
