CAIRO - 19 September 2017: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi praised his American counterpart Donald Trump for his efforts regarding the Palestinian-Israeli conflict in a statement issued by the presidency on Tuesday.
“All of these efforts will finally help in creating a new final and just settlement for the conflict, which will lead to a whole new stable and secured reality,” spokesperson Alaa Youssef stated.
Earlier on Tuesday, Sisi held talks with the Israeli Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu in New York City, where the Egyptian leader is scheduled to attend the United Nations General Assembly meeting.
Sisi's meeting with Netanyahu is his first with an Israeli official since he came into power in July 2014.
The talks tackled the latest developments in the Palestinian territories and efforts to resume Israeli-Palestinian peace talks following the success of Egyptian efforts to achieve Palestinian reconciliation.
On his part, Netanyahu expressed his appreciation for Egypt‘s role regionally to counter terrorism, backing stability and peace.
Sisi also met the Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas following the reconciliation agreement between Fatah and Hamas.
Sisi and Abbas discussed during the meeting all of the Palestinian issue’s aspects, the current affairs of the Middle East, as well as the dangerous escalation in settlements in East Jerusalem and the remaining Palestinian territories.
