CAIRO – 17 September 2017: A man, 52, was arrested for exploiting his 11 children in begging along with his wife, and five others’ children as well. The Public Prosecution accused the defendants of human trafficking, and decided to keep the children in child care centers on Saturday.

The man is called Gamal al-Tayeb and he married three times to have such a large number of children to utilize them in begging and human trafficking. Thus, the Public Prosecution ordered a check-up by forensic doctors to determine if any organs were removed.

The case unfolded as police inspectors noticed that Tayeb was exploiting children and adult ex-offenders in begging, sheltering them in his house, and encouraging them not to return to their parents. The defendant was previously convicted of physically assaulting others in 2011.

Police forces arrested his wife Hanan, 39, and a woman called Gamalat, 26, who were previously convicted of begging in 2016. The latter was using her two daughters in begging as well. That is in addition to arresting four male unemployed adults who were working as beggars, and residing in his house.

The police found in his house two wheelchairs, two crutches, and notes containing words stimulating people’s sympathy that were used in begging.
