Minister: no intention to increase university expenses

CAIRO – 14 September 2017: Higher Education and Scientific Research Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar declared on Thursday that the government has no intention to increase university expenses during a press conference after the monthly meeting of the Supreme Council of Universities.

Abdel Ghaffarsaid private universities are not allowed to exceed a 10 percent yearly increase in costs.

The minster thanked the University of Menofia for hosting the activities of the university youth week, which coincides with the start of the new academic year.Abdel Ghaffar said this academic year will be mostly concerned with student activities, and called on universities to announce plans for student activities.

Abdel Ghaffar call on the youth to participate in the annual youth conference held in Sharm el-Sheikh in November. The conference is attended by various ministers and the president.

The Supreme Council of Universities encouraged the use of electronic resources over printed books. To aid in this the council established rules which are meant to facilitate the acquisition of scientific material for students.
