CAIRO, JEDDAH – 12 September 2017: The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) will hold its next summit of science and technology in Uzbekistan, the General Secretariat said in a statement Tuesday.
The date of the gathering will be set at a later stage.
The first summit was held in the capital of Kazakhstan, Astana, where Egypt was represented by Higher Education and Scientific Research Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar.
This summit issued a long term action program until 2026, as the leaders put a number of priorities such as energy requirements management.
This program also called for building the culture of science and innovation, preparing the person for work by appropriate education and skills and improving the quality of higher education.
The program discussed a number of aims like environmental, water and nutrition safety and guaranteeing healthy life for all citizens.
The countries agreed on necessity of joint cooperation in scientific research and development fields to face the challenges of the 21st century as the Astana declaration announced.
The summit program for 2026 and the Astana declaration affirmed the unification of intellectual property to guarantee its protection at the level of Islamic states level and mutual recognition of scientific certificates.
