CAIRO – 11 September 2017: A police source revealed to Egypt Today on Monday that culprits dug some tombs and threw remains inside, in the desert area surrounding the Qousseya village in Upper Egypt’s Asyut governorate in order to sell them.

The source explained that the offenders, who have been identified and will be arrested, attempted to take over these family tombs whose owners have not been residing in the governorate for a long time, as the price of each had jumped to LE 35,000.

Residents of Qousseya village in Asyut governorate found on Saturday bones and skulls in landfills 15 days after finding 14 bags containing the remains of 27 bodies. These were analyzed by forensic pathologists, who concluded that the time of death dates back to over 35 years ago.

As part of the investigation conducted by the Public Prosecution, a committee has been formed to determine the dates of death of newly found remains and if they were murdered.

What makes such findings mysterious is that soil traces were found on the bones and skulls, while Qousseya’s is entirely desert.
