RIYADH - 11 September 2017: The Jeddah-based Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member states expressed deep concern over atrocities and systematic actions by the security forces, in Myanmar against the Rohingya Muslim community and developments that forced 270,000 Muslims to flee to Bangladesh, while their homes and places of worship have been burned, according to Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
The announcement made during a meeting held on the sidelines of the First OIC Summit on Science and Technology in Astana to discuss the latest developments related to the Muslim community of Rohingya in Myanmar.
During the meeting, the OIC member states called on Myanmar’s government to cooperate fully with the International Fact-Finding Mission and to bring perpetrators to justice.
Also, they urged Myanmar’s government to fulfill their obligations under international law, human rights treaties and to take all necessary measures to stop all acts of dispersion and discriminatory practices against the Rohingya minority, as well as persistent attempts to obliterate their Islamic identity and culture.
They also called for the Government of Myanmar to eliminate the root causes of the plight, including the denial of nationality for the Rohingya minority, continuing deprivation and discrimination against them.
Furthermore, they expressed worry about the massive influx of Rohingya children to Bangladesh.
All member states should provide necessary support to Bangladesh, in order to level up to the influx of refugees into its territory, the OIC said.
