CAIRO – 10 September 2017: The

“Bright Star 2017”

training between Egypt-U.S. armed forces launched on Sunday and are set to continue until September 20 at the

Mohamed Naguib

military base in the northern military zone.

Egyptian and American armed forces participating in the training will also have the opportunity to discuss strategic issues regarding international efforts to combat terrorism during a seminar to be held on the sidelines of the training.

The Mohamed Naguib military base was specifically chosen for the long-awaited event because of its huge capacity; this capacity makes it an excellent choice for accommodating the large number of troops that are taking part in the exercise. The base is also ideal because it is equipped with the latest technological weaponry that will be used during the drills.

The Ministry of Defense published a video of the training on its official website showing the participation of American and Egyptian air, navy and infantry forces in the exercises.

In conjunction with the “Bright Star” training, Egyptian paratroopers started on Saturday a joint Egyptian-Russian military exercise called "Defenders of Friendship 2017", hosted by the Russian Federation until September 22. The training was carried out for the first time in Egypt in 2016.

These military trainings come within the framework of the Egyptian armed forces’ training plan, which aims to exchange training experiences and establish military cooperation relations with other countries.

The “Bright Star” military exercises, which dates back to 1980, is marked to be the first since the ouster of former President Muhammed Hosni Mubarak following a short hiatus in 2014 ordered by the former American President Barack Obama.
