AL chief urges Barzani to delay Kurdistan independence referendum

ERBIL - 10 September 2017: Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Abul Gheit on Saturday urged President of the Kurdistan Regional Government Masoud Barzani to postpone an independence referendum slated for September 25, Al Sumaria TV reported.

Abul Gheit also called on Barzani to hold dialogue with Baghdad under international auspices.

The AL chief expressed concern about the referendum.

But, Barzani told Abul Gheit that the referendum is not a personal decision that can be delayed. The decision was made by Kurdistan’s people and political powers, he noted.
