XIAMEN, China - 4 Sep 2017: The BRICS leaders called for reaching a permanent settlement to the Syrian crisis, stressing that a comprehensive political process is the only solution for this crisis in order to allow the Syrians to preserve the sovereignty and independence of their country.

In Xiamen Declaration issued by the ninth BRICS Summit on Monday, the leaders expressed their readiness to offer support to solve the Palestinian-Israeli conflict so as to find a fair and permanent solution to the conflict in the Middle East.

They further renewed their recognition to the sovereignty of Iraq and support to the Iraqi government and people.

The leaders expressed concern over the deteriorating conditions in Yemen, calling the conflicting parties to stop hostile acts and resume the UN-backed negotiations.

The BRICS summit in China's Xiamen is being held in the new so-called BRICS Plus format, with the leaders of such non-BRICS countries as Egypt, Mexico, Thailand, Guinea and Tajikistan also taking part in the event along with the leaders of the five BRICS nations, namely Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa.
