CAIRO – 28 August 2017: Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qassemi announced on Monday that President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is expected to visit Iran’s capital Tehran.

Iranian Labor News Agency (ILNA) quoted Qassemi as declaring, "We expect that President Erdoğan will visit Tehran soon. We will make an official statement as soon as the details and date of the visit is agreed upon."

He relayed that the meeting held between Erdoğan and Iran’s Chief of General Staff Major General Mohammad Bagheri addressing bilateral relations in Turkey’s Ankara was very effective, giving no information regarding the outcome of the meeting.

Bagheri visited Ankara on August 15 to form official contacts and the Turkish president received him the following day.

Relations between the two countries in various areas of politics, culture and economy expanded in the current year which guarantees an increase in interaction and cooperation, he explained.

Iran and Turkey share a common position on regional issues especially the territorial integrity in Iraq and Syria and solidarity among ethnic and religious groups in these two countries.
