CAIRO - 28 August 2017: Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry met with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko on Monday during his visit to Belarus where he conveyed Sisi’s message that stressed promoting relations between the two countries, said Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid in a statement.

Sisi’s message also stressed the importance of strengthening “cooperation” between the two countries, pointing out to Egypt’s keenness to follow up on joint agreements and programs that were agreed upon last January, during the Belarusian president’s visit to Cairo.

On his part, President Lukashenko expressed his appreciation of Egypt, its leading role and its latest economic reforms, noting that his country attaches great importance to relations with Egypt, considering it as a window to the Arab and African region. The two leaders also discussed Egypt’s stance towards the regional circumstances, including Libya, Syria, Yemen, Iraq and the Palestinian-Israeli peace process, said Abu Zeid.

Shoukry stressed on Egypt's willingness to support negotiations on establishing a free trade area between Egypt and the Eurasian Economic Union, as well as strengthening the economic and commercial relations between the two countries.

President Aleksandr Lukashenko arrived in Egypt on January 15 on a two-day visit, where he met President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi at the Ittihadiyah Palace. The visit coincided with the 25th anniversary of establishing Egyptian-Belarus diplomatic ties.
