CAIRO - 26 August 2017: Alistair Burt, UK Minister of State for the Middle East and North Africa, said he is very proud of the United Kingdom’s role and responsibility as the largest foreign direct investor in Egypt.

In a video published by the UK Foreign Office, he added: "The relationship between the UK and Egypt goes back a long way and it is great to see how that relationship is growing in recent years."

"Firstly we are very proud of the United Kingdom’s role and responsibility as the largest foreign direct investor in Egypt. Some GBP 30 billion has been invested here since 2011. In those areas where the country will look to advance in terms of technology and technical education, in reforms in these areas the United Kingdom will play a part."

"There are important regional issues to discuss and I was honored to meet with His Excellency the Foreign Minister today to a have a conversation about those matters that affect us. We face the common scourge of terrorism so trying to develop our defense and security relationships so that we can protect our peoples is of increasing importance to us," he further said.

“We believe societies are stable when they look at security not just externally but internally and where human rights and the basis of stability in a country is also strongly protected and the two work closely together,” the minister added.
