A footage from clip released by military forces on Facebook
CAIRO – 25 August 2017: Law enforcement forces of the second field army have destroyed a number of off-road vehicles, two explosives caches, three observation posts, and three motorbikes used by militants in the Sinai Peninsula, military spokesman Tamer Rifae said in a Thursday statement.
The official armed forces Facebook page released late Thursday a video report on the Egyptian military operations against militants from Islamic State-affiliated Ansar Beit Al-Maqdis.
The two-minute video included footage of Egyptian soldiers and officers on military armored vehicles combing several areas in Sinai searching for militant hideouts. The clip also showed a large amount of materials used to manufacture bombs, communication devices, medical supplies and religious publications that incite extremism seized by the armed forces.
The move comes as part of efforts exerted by the armed forces to eliminate Takfiri and criminal elements in the country.
An ongoing state of emergency has been imposed in North Sinai, and has been renewed every three months since 2014, including an overnight curfew in some designated area in the governorate.
Unrest escalated in North Sinai following the ouster of former president Mohamed Morsi. Clashes between the armed forces and Islamic State-affiliated militants have increased ever since, especially in Al-Arish and Sheikh Zuweid.
