CAIRO – 24 August 2017: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi chaired the first meeting of the National Council to Counter Terrorism and Radicalism on Thursday to plan its future work system, Presidential Spokesperson Alaa Youssef said in a statement.ted.

Sisi directed the council to work on a comprehensive national strategy that would uproot terrorism locally and globally along five axes; security, culture, economy, society, and media.

“The council shall contribute to promoting a moderate religious discourse, and review educational concepts to establish the values of accepting the other and rejecting violence and extremism,” said Sisi during the meeting.

Protecting the youth from the danger of extremism needs planning and efforts; and to provide them with employment opportunities should be bolstered, Sisi added.

The meeting included the prime minister, parliament speaker, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, the Coptic Orthodox Pope and several ministers in addition to a number of public figures.

Following the deplorable terrorist operation that targeted the safety of hundreds of civilians and security forces, President Sisi issued a declaration to establish the Council, in draw up a comprehensive strategy to counter terrorism.
