CAIRO – 23 August 2017: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi received today a U.S. delegation headed by Jared Kushner, U.S. President Donald Trump’s son-in-law and senior advisor.
The U.S. envoy included Jason Greenblatt, chief legal advisor to Trump and U.S. special representative for international negotiations, and Dina Powell, the U.S. deputy national security advisor for strategy.
During the meeting, Sisi confirmed Egypt's keenness to further develop the multifaceted mutual relations the two countries share across various fields and to boost more coordination with the American administration.
Also, Sisi highlighted that Egypt gives due consideration to the Palestinian cause, confirming the leaderships’ keenness in contributing to the settlement of the crisis.
As such, Sisi previewed Egypt’s ongoing efforts to reach a consensual solution by all concerned parties in order to move ahead with the resumption of peace negotiations between the Palestinian and Israeli sides. He contended that resolving the Palestinian issue would contribute to countering the terrorist narrative prevalent in the region.
From their side, the members of the U.S. delegation confirmed the importance of the Egyptian-American relations, their support of furthering mutual cooperation in the upcoming period and their appreciation of Egypt’s efforts in countering extremism.
The U.S. delegation reviewed during the meeting the overall results of the contacts they made with the regional parties in order to resume the Palestinian-Israeli peace negotiations, stressing that the Middle East envoy’s mission is to provide a more specific vision towards the issue and to push for more tangible progress.
