BEIRUT - 23 Aug 2017: Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoygu discussed on Wednesday with his Lebanese counterpart Yacoub Sarraf the Russian support of Lebanon in face of Daesh terrorist group.
On Saturday, the Lebanese army began a broad military operation dubbed “Fajr al-Jurud” to liberate 120 square kilometers held by Daesh on the eastern border of the country.
During the talks, Shoygu noted that one of the de-escalation zones in Syria is neighboring the Lebanese borders.
Four de-escalation zones were established in Syria after an agreement was reached between Russia, Iran and Turkey with the approval of the Syrian government to cease fire and end hostilities with Russia retaining the right to control airspace over these areas.
