CAIRO – 22 August 2017: Social media platforms exploded with countless messages by Qataris who are criticizing decision taken by Qatari regime of disallowing Saudi aircrafts from landing to transport Qatari pilgrims.

#Erhal ya Tamim

The hashtag #Erhal ya Tamim, (Leave Office Tamim), was launched a few hours after Qatari Foreign Ministry released a statement on Monday refusing the Saudi Hajj initiative to transport Qatari pilgrims through Saudi Airlines and covering their Hajj costs.

Under the hashtag #Erhal ya Tamim, a Twitter user wrote “Due to Tamim’s carelessness and selfishness, Qatar is declining into deterioration,” while another user posted “Qatari people are calling for the leaving and punishment of Tamim as Qatar becomes an alliance to Israel and Iran.”

The trending hashtag came amid protests took the streets on Monday calling on Tamim to leave the office.

On Monday, the Twitter account called Mubasher Qatar, affiliated with the Qatari opposition, announced that protestors have been gathering in front of Imam Muhammed ibn Abd al-Wahhab Mosque, which is the national mosque of Qatar, criticizing Tamim’s decisions regarding Qatari pilgrims.

Earlier, the account announced that authorities had put pilgrims on watch lists to interrogate them upon arrival.

In July, Qatar’s Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs issued a decision to stop electronic registration of Hajj for Qatari citizens, without clarifying the reasons behind this decision.

Qatar contradicting itself

Although Saudi Crown Prince Mohamed bin Salman, declared on Wednesday reopening Salwa border to Qataris and transporting them back home from King Fahad International Airport in Dammam and Al-Ahsa International Airport, the Qatari authorities were not cooperative and rejected to facilitate the matter.

Qatari officials try to politicize the issue, saying that facilitating the performance of Hajj to Qatari pilgrims would be through lifting the siege on Qatar itself.

Qatar continued its contradictory policies by refusing to grant Saudi Arabian aircraft the permission to transport pilgrims from Hamad International Airport in Doha, after Saudi Airlines has asked the Qatari authorities to grant permission for their flights to transport Qatari pilgrims.

The straw that broke the camel's back

Pilgrimage dispute concluded a series of controversial issues that put Tamim’s regime on fire, and ignited his people’s anger against him.

For example, Qatari oppositions do not like the suspicious relations between Qatar and Iran that extended since the former Qatari Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, then with his son Emir Tamim, and have been confirmed by the security deals with the Iranian Revolutionary Guards.

Qatari oppositions also do not tolerate that Iran has a great influence in different sectors in Qatar and former Emir Sheikh Hamad preferred dealing with Iranians especially who lived in his country.

Meanwhile, Qatar became a Turkish military quarters after Ankara had backed Qatar when the four Arab countries cut all economic and diplomatic ties this month, accusing Doha of supporting terrorism.

Social media users: “Leave Tamim”

In the same respect, Dubai's former police chief, Dhahi Khalfan, conducted on his official Twitter account a questionnaire on how many people call Tamim to leave the office and who do not.

He posted announcing the result that the majority users voted for Tamim’s leaving by 82 percent, which reflected how much people in the Gulf and Arab region are no longer compatible with Tamim’s regime.
