CAIRO – 21 August 2017: Sixteen desalination plants are being established in five governorates with a capacity of 473,000 cubic meters, Minister of Housing Moustafa Madbouli said on Sunday.
The desalination plants will be set up in Matrouh, North and South Sinai, Red Sea and Port Said governorates, with the aim to desalinate sea water especially in coastal cities. It will also keep the Nile water for agriculture irrigation purposes, according to the housing minister.
The National Organization for Potable Water and Sanitary Drainage (NOPWASD) has already built 39 desalination plants with total capacity of 235,600 cubic meters, assistant minister of housing Tarek el-Rifae.
