CAIRO - 17 August 2017: Hamas imposed high security measures in southern Gaza Strip to reinforce the situation of the Egyptian-Palestinian border following the suicide attack that took place early on Thursday in Rafah.

A suicide bomber appeared at Ezz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, which is the military wing of the Palestinian Hamas organization, when security forces affiliated to Hamas stopped him while he was attempting to enter Egypt; one person was killed and four others of those present in the Brigades were injured.

Hamas forces cordoned a number of areas south of the Gaza Strip, in which they intensified security presence at the border area with Egypt following the incident, according to Palestinian sources.

Also, security forces were deployed in various provinces and areas inside the strip. The high security measures included inspections for vehicles, and identification of documents.

Upon the attack, Hamas forces detained a number of individuals for attempting to infiltrate to North Sinai, Spokesman of Hamas movement Iyad al-Bazem said in a statement.
