CAIRO – 12 August 2017: On anniversary of Rabaa, A Salafist preacher named Sameh Abdelhamid urged the families of the victims to sue the leaders of the Muslim brotherhood, claiming that they are the cause of bloodshed for the fallen victims.
Abdelhamid argued that this imputed to them being the ones who beguiled their children in a deceptive way and caused their deaths, adding that they prevented the sit-inners to leave it while the disposal at the sit-in was ongoing.
On August 14, 2013, security forces set out on dispersing the Muslim Brotherhood-dominated sit-in in Nasr City’s Rabaa al-Adawiya, along with another sit-in that was located in Nahda Square in Giza.
The Rabaa al-Adawiya sit-in, which was proven to have been armed to the teeth, was primarily forged by former Muslim Brotherhood-affiliated President Mohamed Morsi supporters and sympathizers in support of his “alleged” legitimacy.
He further stated that they have misled the protesters into believing that the sit-in despite it being proven that the sit-in was embracing large amounts of arms, which, as he argued, led to the deadly shoot-out between the protesters and police officers who end up as first causality.
Abdelhamid highlighted that they fetched the women and children and stationed them at the front of the sit-in and used them as shields, lamenting they were adept in weaponizing children to achieve political gains by pushing them to wear coffins as a symbol for their readiness to be martyrs.
He also urged Rabaa residents to sue them, saying that they disturbed the lives of the district residents as they used to remove the tiles of the pavement to forge barricades to block the roads. Many of residents fled their houses during the sit-in that lasted for 46 straight days.
