CAIRO - 11 August 2017: Deputy Regional Representative and Officer in Charge at the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime Julien Garsany stressed the UNODC's support to Egypt's Social Solidarity Ministry and the Addiction Treatment and Abuse Fund (ATAF) in combating addiction.

In statements on Thursday, Garsany said the office agreed with Social Solidarity Minister Ghada Wali on programs and workshops, with the participation of NGOs, to fight this phenomenon.

Wali herself asked for benefiting from the foreign experience in order to implement successful policies to combat addiction, he noted.

The UN official highlighted the importance of adopting various methods able to provide needed help with regard to protection and treatment from addiction such as arts and sports.

He hailed organizing a sports championship for those recovered from addiction.
