CAIRO – 9 August 2017: Armed forces launched the construction of five new naval bases along the coastlines of the Red Sea and the Mediterranean, Commander-in-Chief of ‎the Egyptian Navy Rear Admiral Ahmed Khaled announced on Tuesday in an exclusive statement to “Akher El nahar” or sun setting time TV show.

Speaking live from Keil, Germany, Admiral Khaled hailed Egypt’s acquisition of the second German “Type 209” submarine which is believed to be massively contributing to the preservation and protection of the coastlines and consequently the national security.

On the sidelines of the German-based ceremony, where Egypt officially received the new submarine, Admiral Khaled signed a cooperation protocol with German multi international conglomerate "ThyssenKrupp."

The German-based company provides marine systems, shipbuilding, services along with plant technologies, elevator systems.

Recently, the naval forces inked a number of agreements to boost their capabilities, including the acquisition of the "Suleiman Ezzat" missiles, the "Frim" frigate from France, four Gowind Corvettes and the “RKA 32” launchers that were gifted to Egypt by the Russians.

Also, Egypt’s naval capabilities have been boosted by signing several agreements, which culminated in acquiring the mighty "Nasser "and "Sadat" helicopter carriers.
