CAIRO- 8 August 2017: President Abdel Fatah al- Sisi and Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry met on Monday night in Cairo with Kuwaiti Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sabah Al Khalid Al Sabah, accompanied by Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs and Minister of Information Sheikh Muhammed Abdullah al Mubarak al Sabah.

Al Khalid Al Sabah handed over a written message to Sisi from Kuwaiti Emir Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jabir Al Sabah mentioning Kuwait’s mediation efforts toward resolving the Qatar crisis, Egyptian Presidency spokesman Alaa Yousef said.

The Kuwaiti FM has reviewed his state’s considerable efforts toward the unity of the Arab nations and getting the Arab states together as one hand in a range of challenges facing them. The minister hailed Egypt’s vital role in the joint Arab work and being a key player for maintaining Arab security and stability.

Sisi welcomed the Kuwaiti delegation, expressing his appreciation for Kuwait’s strenuous efforts attempting to maintain joint Arab cooperation and unity, in addition to Kuwait’s positive, unforgettable stance toward backing Egypt. He asked them to express his appreciation to the Kuwaiti emir for his perseverance in resolving the crisis between Qatar and the GCC states.

The two states have agreed on joint collaboration in the upcoming period that would enhance bilateral ties and achieve the best interests for both states.

Shoukry met his Kuwaiti counterpart, Sabah Al Khalid Al Sabah, last month on June 17 in Cairo, where both parties discussed means of boosting high-level bilateral relations and reviewing the latest updates toward the situation between Qatar and the states of the Gulf Cooperation Council.

The official diplomatic visits between the two states have notably increased since Egypt and five other countries cut diplomatic ties with Qatar over the Gulf state’s “continuous support for terrorism.”

Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain, Yemen and the eastern government of Libya had announced the severance of diplomatic ties with Qatar.

The UAE, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain have all praised the Kuwaiti emir’s positive mediation role in attempting to settle the Qatar crisis with the Gulf Cooperation Council; although the crisis is still ongoing due to Qatar’s ignorance toward the GCC’s demands.
