Egyptian delegation to attend African parliament sessions

CAIRO – 6 August 2017: Egyptian delegation headed to South Africa on Saturday to attend the sessions of the committee Pan-African Parliament (PAP) that is scheduled to take part from August 7 to 11.

The delegation will include a number of parliamentarians including head of the Parliament’s African Affairs Committee, Moustafa al-Gendy; the secretary of the African Affairs Committee, Mai Mahmoud; the parliamentarian Hatem Bashat, and General Salah Afifi.

Bashat told Egypt Today that he will participate in the Committee of Foreign Relations and Conflict Resolution. He added that Afify and Mai Mahmoud will take part in the agriculture committee.

The Committee on Foreign Relations and Conflict Resolution will discuss a number of issues related to terrorism in African countries, Bashat said.

The Pan African Parliament was established as an organ in the African Union (AU) in order to ensure the full participation of African peoples in the development and economic integration of the continent. The first Parliament was inaugurated on March 18, 2004 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and its headquarters is in Midrand, South Africa.
