CAIRO – 4 August 2017: In light of the recent Gulf-Qatar crisis, former Turkish president Abdullah Gül arrived in Doha as part of an exchange of solidarity visits between the two countries’ leaders, Zaman Turkish newspaper, Arabic edition, said on Thursday.

The visit came within the Turkey’s continuous support for Qatar, “a terror state,” according to the Zaman.

During his visit, Gül and his accompanying delegation are scheduled to meet with Qatari Emir Tamim bin Hamad al Thani and his father the former Emir Hamad al Thani.
According to an official in the visiting delegation, Gül will exchange views on the crisis during his visit to Qatar, the newspaper added.

Turkey has stood by the side of Qatar after the four Arab countries — Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt — imposed a diplomatic and trade boycott of Qatar in June, accusing Qatar of supporting terrorism.

Earlier, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced his support to Qatar.
On 5 June, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and Bahrain broke diplomatic ties with Qatar over accusations that the tiny emirate supports terrorists and extremist groups.

Tamim admitted there are ongoing disagreements with some GCC countries.

He also said all the allegations against Qatar are not true and praised how Qatari organizations and citizens dealt with the crisis. He also mentioned that the crisis has boosted Qatar’s relations with other countries.
