Qatar reports Egypt at UNSC over ‘countering terrorism’

CAIRO – 3 August 2017: After the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) adopted Egypt’s initiative to ban supplying terrorism organizations with weapons, Doha has reported Cairo at the UNSC, calming that Egypt is exploiting its membership against Qatar.

Egyptian lawyer Khaled Abou Bakr, a member of Union Internationale des Avocats, tweeted on Thursday that Qatar has submitted the UN body a complaint from Egypt, claiming that Cairo is exploiting its membership at the body against Doha, amid the current Gulf rift Doha.

On Wednesday, the Council, which is presided by Egypt, has approved the resolution Resolution 2370 to ban supplying terrorism organizations with weapons. Egyptian ambassador to UN Amr Abdellatif Aboulatta urged all U.N. member states to provide their full cooperation in implementing Resolution 2370.

Gas-rich country is suffering from an Arab boycotting over its support and finance to terrorist groups; on July 5, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Bahrain severed their ties with Doha and closed their aerospace and maritime navigations against Qatari transportations.

During the Fourth round of the National Youth Conference on July 25, President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi said the region has been suffering over the past seven years from interference in its affairs and the support for extremist groups, leading to damages that also impacted Egypt. “We will continue our position, and will not back down a moment, because our demands are legitimate,” he added.

Sisi had stressed multiple times on the necessity to counter funding and training of countries that harbor terrorist organizations.

Qatar has started a hostile policy with Egypt by showing support for the outlawed group of Muslim Brotherhood in 2013.

As evidence of supporting terrorism, documents showed Qatar’s involvement in the assassination of the U.S. ambassador in Libya and also revealed that its efforts prevented U.S. intelligence from arresting the mastermind behind the 9/11 attacks.

The Qatari Foreign Minister explicitly confessed Qatar’s support of terrorism in a previous video, and reports have proved that Doha and Tehran backed terrorists in four continents. There are 59 internationally wanted terrorists residing in Qatar.
