CAIRO – 3 August 2017: Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry discussed bilateral relations with his Sudanese counterpart, Ibrahim el-Ghandour, in the framework of the Egyptian-Sudanese Political Consultation Committee held on Thursday in Khartoum.
Talks tackled several issues concerning the common interests of the two countries, including economic and trade cooperation, counter terrorism and extremism. The meeting addressed also the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) and the results of the latest Nile Basin meeting held in Uganda.
Shoukry stressed the importance of resuming the work of the triple technical committee which reviews the effect of the dam on Nile Basin countries, affirming that he is expecting Sudan’s support in this issue, according to the statement of Foreign Ministry’s Spokesperson, Ahmed Abu Zeid on Thursday.
Shoukry also stressed the importance of holding regular meetings between the two countries to put the two countries' relations on the right track.
The meetings also help remove obstacles facing the two countries and consolidating bilateral ties in all fields, Shoukry said. He added that Prime Minister Sherif Ismail is looking forward to meet his Sudanese counterpart al-Seyed Bakry Saleh in Egypt as soon as possible.
The two ministers agreed on the importance of putting the Media Code of Ethics in effect quickly, to contain the negative media escalation between the two countries.
