CAIRO – 3 August 2017: A new blow was given to the Ministry of Supply when the Giza supply official was seized for taking LE 1 million ($56 thousand) in bribes.

The General Administration of Supply and Trade Investigations, headed by General Anwar Said, seized the head of a subsidy office in Giza for wasting one million pounds of state subsidized money for low-income people.

Following investigations by the security services, it was revealed that the accused received financial sums from citizens wanting to increase the number of beneficiaries in their ration cards, as well as issuing 37949 illegal immigrants a total of 27,974 undocumented beneficiaries.

This is one of many recent instances where the Egyptian government has revealed and dealt with officials receiving bribes, an obvious implementation of their anti-corruption strategy
