Egyptian award-wining swimmer Farida Othman
CAIRO – 2 August 2017: Prime Minister Sherif Ismail congratulated on Wednesday Egyptian award-wining swimmer Farida Othman for winning Egypt’s first bronze medal in the women's 50-meter butterfly stroke final at the World Aquatics Championships in Hungary on Saturday late July, a cabinet statement said on Wednesday.
This award is the Egypt’s first medal in an international swimming championship, becoming the first Egyptian to score a medal and be ranked on the world podium.
The Egyptian National Team’s swimmer came in the 25th place on July 27 in the 100 meters free race in the 2017 International Swimming Federation (FINA) Swimming World Cup in Budapest, Hungary.
Othman completed the 100 meters free race in 55.52 second making her finish in the 25th position.
She previously finished in the seventh position in the 100 meters butterfly race after completing the race in 58.67 second.
Othman also finished 17th in the 100m fly, timing 58.67s, missing the semis by 0.01s.
She also competed in the 100m freestyle, finishing 25th in the prelims, timing 55.52s.
The Egyptian National Swim Team is represented in the tournament by Farida Othman, Marwan el-Kamash, Youssef el-Kamash, Ahmed Akram, Hania Mouro, Omar Eissa, Mohamed Khaled, Mohamed Samy and Ahmed Hamdy.
