BAGHDAD - 31 July 2017: Iraqi military sources said Monday that 20 Daesh elements were killed in a raid launched by Iraqi warplanes near the Syrian borders.
Iraqi military spokesman Mohamed al Khdary said in statements to the US-funded radio Sawa that the Iraqi side received a tip on the presence of the terrorist group elements then carried out the raid.
Reports said Al Hashd Shaabi units, backed by helicopter gunships, fought heavy clashes with Daesh militants when dozens of extremists attacked the military base at the border post of Tal Sufoug near Syria.
Paramilitary units are deployed in the desert near the Syrian border to prevent cross-border Daesh movement between Iraq and Syria.
