CAIRO – 31 July 2017: Qatar’s Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs stopped electronic registration of Hajj for Qatari citizens and residents on Saturday. Qatar did not clarify the reasons behind the registration suspension.
On the other side, Saudi authorities welcomed the Qatari pilgrims this year and secured nine corridors to be used in emergency cases – one over the Mediterranean Sea under Egypt’s control and eight more in the Arab Gulf area – adding that the measure had been adopted under the auspices of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
“I swear to God that I am ready to provide the expenses to rent four Boeing 777 planes to transport all Qatari pilgrims,” Saudi actress Reem Abdullah said on her Twitter account on Sunday.
“This is a challenge from me to the Qatari regime that has prevented Qataris from performing Hajj,” she added.
The foreign ministers of Egypt, the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain held a meeting Sunday in Manama to discuss the updates of their rift with Qatar.
Bahraini Foreign Minister Khalid bin Ahmed Al-Khalifa read a joint statement by the four Arab states ensuring they maintain their position urging Qatar to meet the six principles on combating extremism and terrorism that were agreed upon in Cairo two weeks ago.
The four Arab foreign ministers announced they are ready for dialogue with Qatar in case the latter meets the 13 demands issued in June, according to the joint statement.
They further stressed that their demands are in accordance with international regulations, as well as the 2013 and 2014 Riyadh agreements.
