CAIRO – 3 June 2026: An Iranian missile and drone attack struck Kuwait International Airport early on Wednesday, injuring "a number of people," the Kuwaiti military said, without specifying the exact number.
The army spokesman said multiple hostile drones struck Terminal 1 at the airport in a “heinous Iranian aggression,” causing “severe material damage” to the building.
He noted that the injured have received medical treatment.
Kuwait's Directorate General of Civil Aviation announced suspending operations at the airport and diverting flights until further notice, the state news agency KUNA reported.
The US military earlier said Iranian missiles launched toward Kuwait and Bahrain had either been intercepted or failed to reach their targets.
US Central Command said it also carried out strikes on Iran's Qeshm Island, targeting an Iranian military ground control station, and intercepted multiple Iranian missiles and drones.
Iran's Revolutionary Guards said they targeted the headquarters of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain and another country, without naming Kuwait.
They described the attack as retaliation for a US missile strike on an oil tanker bound for Iran, according to the Associated Press.
The attacks came as Washington and Tehran remained deadlocked in efforts to preserve a fragile ceasefire and reach a broader agreement to end the war started by US and Israeli strikes on Iran on February 28.
