CAIRO – 14 May 2026: Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty on Thursday stressed the importance of taking practical steps toward implementing a proposal to establish a Brazilian logistics hub for grain silos in the Suez Canal Economic Zone.

Abdelatty met with Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira on the sidelines of the BRICS foreign ministers’ meeting in New Delhi.

He said the grain hub proposal comes as part of Egypt’s efforts to position the zone as a regional hub for the re-export of Brazilian goods.

Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s interest in advancing bilateral relations with Brazil, particularly following the signing of a strategic partnership agreement between the two countries in November 2024.

He praised the longstanding ties between Cairo and Brasília, describing them as rooted in mutual respect and appreciation.

Abdelatty also stressed that enhancing economic, trade and investment cooperation remains a priority, highlighting the importance of building on the recent growth in bilateral trade, especially amid rising Egyptian exports to Brazil.

The meeting also addressed regional developments, with Abdelatty reviewing Egypt’s efforts to reduce the ongoing tensions and support the negotiating track.

He stressed the importance of continuing negotiation rounds and reaching understandings that would help consolidate the ceasefire and end the war, while outlining Egypt’s intensive diplomatic contacts in this regard.

For his part, Vieira praised the growing momentum in relations between the two countries and expressed appreciation for Egypt’s active role in supporting regional stability.

He also voiced Brazil’s aspiration to continue strengthening bilateral cooperation and coordination.
