CAIRO – 11 April 2026: Egypt has set a goal to procure five million tons of wheat from local farmers during this harvest season, supporting efforts to reduce the import gap and secure the country’s strategic needs.

This was announced during a meeting for President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on Saturday with the prime minister, the ministers of agriculture and supply, and the chief of the Future of Egypt Authority for Sustainable Development.

The meeting reviewed preparations for the local wheat procurement season as locally produced wheat will be accepted from farmers and suppliers starting April 15 until the end of the season on August 15, the Presidency said in a statement.

The procurement price has been increased to LE 2,500 per ardeb, with immediate payment to farmers, a step aimed at supporting the stability of the domestic market, the statement added.
