CAIRO – 27 March 2026: The United Nations on Friday called on the United States and Israel to halt military attacks against Iran, while simultaneously urging Tehran to cease its strikes on Gulf states to prevent further escalation in the region.
In a statement published on its website, the UN noted that the ongoing conflict in the Middle East is causing widespread terror and suffering. The organization highlighted that maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz remains almost at a standstill, exacerbating a global energy crisis that is severely impacting the world's least developed countries, particularly in Africa.
UN member states and their representatives at the Human Rights Council convened on Friday for an urgent debate regarding recent airstrikes on a school in Minab, Iran. The attack, which killed more than 100 children, was deemed a grave violation of international humanitarian law and international human rights law.
UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk stated: “Whatever the differences between states, we all agree that they will not be resolved by killing schoolchildren.”
Türk called on U.S. military authorities to conclude their investigation into the bombing of the Iranian school and to publish the findings as soon as possible.
